Progress and priorities: Update from the Chair
Welcome to fall! In a new blog post, CPhA’s new chair, Annette Robinson, shares an update on CPhA’s current advocacy priorities and what we’re focused on through the final quarter of 2024. From pharmacare and third-party payer advocacy to evolving the CPS, we’re staying on top of the issues that make a difference for you and your patients.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: September 30
September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation or Orange Shirt Day. This day honours the children who never returned home and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. CPhA is proud to support IPPC’s pharmacy commitments to truth and reconciliation. Check out our website for tools and resources to support your practice and your efforts to ensure that pharmacy professionals are the most trusted health-care professional for Indigenous patients too!
Your input needed: Pharmacy experiences with third-party payers survey now open
Help shape the next phase of our comprehensive advocacy strategy to address restrictive third-party payer policies! CPhA is seeking pharmacy owners, managers and staff to complete a short survey exploring the time and resources you spend on third-party payer administrative tasks, including claim management, audits and reimbursement, and the impact those tasks have on your pharmacy. Deadline to participate: September 30.
Women’s Health Symposium: Accredited clinical sessions explore key women’s health topics
CPhA is hosting a Women's Health Symposium on September 28, 2024, from 11:00am-3:45pm ET. At this half-day virtual event, you’ll learn about common women’s health conditions, understand the role pharmacists have in assessing disease risk in women and learn how to provide effective counselling and medication management. The program includes an engaging keynote and panel discussion and 3 accredited clinical sessions. Register before September 26 for a chance to win your registration!
CPS seeking new authors for dermatology topics
CPhA is seeking new authors to help keep our CPS content up to date and on the cutting edge of clinical practice. Currently, authors are needed for several dermatological topics, including Fungal Skin Infections (jock itch, ringworm), Viral Skin Infections (common warts), and Dandruff and Seborrhea. As a CPS author, you’ll join a respected group of experts, sharing your knowledge, giving back to the profession and earning an honorarium for your time.
Mpox: What you need to know
With the recent World Health Organization (WHO) declaration of mpox as a global public health emergency of international concern and increasing media coverage, pharmacy professionals may be getting more questions at the pharmacy counter about this virus. To help support pharmacy teams in those conversations with patients, CPhA has developed a new fact sheet that provides an overview of mpox, including information about transmission, incubation, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

Updated HIV guidelines now available
HIV treatment has evolved over the past 40 years, and so has the role of the pharmacist in caring for people with HIV. What was once a terminal diagnosis has become a chronic condition with limited impact on life expectancy when managed with contemporary antiretroviral therapy (ART). Read the new guidelines for pharmacists caring for people at risk of or living with HIV in Canada.
QC and AB participants needed for CPS User Group
CPhA is seeking Quebec and Alberta users of the CPS suite of products to provide valuable feedback and insights. We’re continually evolving CPS to best suit your needs and preferences, and we need your help to make sure we continue to move in the right direction! The User Group meets virtually every second month, sharing their experiences on how CPS content is used in their practices.
