As your national voice for pharmacy, CPhA has continued to advocate on your behalf with governments, stakeholders and partners through the spring and summer months. NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION
Friday, September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day in Canada. Intergenerational trauma, health-care disparities and racism continue to undermine the health of Indigenous patients, but pharmacists can play a key role in implementing culturally safe, patient-centred care for these patients. We invite you to review our Resource Round-up: Indigenous health for a collection of tools, information and resources to support your practice.
FLU SEASON IS COMING: ARE YOU READY?
After 2 years with little to no influenza activity, data from the southern hemisphere suggests that Canada may see a more severe flu season this year. Coupled with new survey results showing that fewer Canadians intend to get a flu shot this year and an unseasonal spike in respiratory illnesses through the summer, pharmacy teams are bracing for a very challenging fall. CPhA has tools, information and resources to help you prepare.
NEW FEATURE! CPhA WELLNESS WATCH
Each month, CPhA will shine a spotlight on mental health resources that are available to support pharmacy teams. This month we’re highlighting, A Prescription for Professional Wellness, a new podcast hosted by Amy Oliver, pharmacist and certified leadership coach, and Dr. Carly Crewe, psychotherapist and empowerment coach. The series is sponsored by the Ontario Pharmacists Association (OPA) and is intended to help facilitate conversations about the mental health challenges pharmacy professionals are currently facing.
ACETAMINOPHEN AND IBUPROFEN SUPPLY ISSUES ONGOING
Canada has been experiencing an intermittent supply issue on pediatric liquid formulations of both Acetaminophen and ibuprofen. We issued a statement in August clarifying that a prescription is not needed to purchase these products, and we’re encouraging the public to purchase only what they need to ensure supply is available for all who need it. CPhA has compiled a collection of resources to support you and your patients, and we continue to work with Health Canada and other key stakeholders to understand the extent of the issue and collaborate on mitigation strategies.

CPO CONVERSATIONS: ON ADVOCACY & LEADERSHIP
In this month’s edition of CPO Conversations, CPO Danielle Paes reflects on finding balance between advocating to advance pharmacy practice and promoting a safe and sustainable future that enables pharmacists to thrive. It’s critical that we come together as a profession to speak out both collectively and individually about the value pharmacy brings to the health-care system and what we need to realize our potential.
