February marks Black History Month in Canada—an important time to celebrate and recognize the contributions of Black Canadians and to reflect on Black health in Canada and the anti-Black racism that continues to impact our pharmacy colleagues and patients. In 2019, more than 56% of the drugs approved by Health Canada were for patients with rare diseases. These drugs not only present clinical complexities but also pose a variety of other challenges. Drug shortage updates
CPhA remains engaged with Health Canada and other stakeholders to discuss and manage several ongoing shortages. We’ve updated our website with new resources and updated information on Cholestyramine, Medroxyprogesterone/progesterone, Tamsulosin hydrochloride and Ozempic.

Government expands of Canada Student Loan forgiveness program, but not for pharmacy
The good news: the federal government has acted on their promise to expand the Canada Student Loan forgiveness program. The bad news: the expansion increases allowances for doctors and nurses, but still does not include pharmacists. Send a letter or email to your MP to advocate for equity for pharmacy grads!
