Community pharmacist prescribing of antimicrobials: A systematic review from an antimicrobial stewardship perspective

This year’s CPJ Best Paper is a systematic review that highlights the evidence showing that community pharmacist prescribing of antimicrobials benefits patients and the health care system, and leads to patient satisfaction. Valerie Leung, Julie Hui-Chih Wu and their co-authors (Fatima Khalid, Bradley J. Langford, Nathan P. Beahm, Mark McIntyre, Kevin L. Schwartz and Gary Garber) also showed how pharmacists in the community setting are advancing antimicrobial stewardship by helping to reduce unnecessary prescribing while increasing appropriateness.
