IPPC Indigenous Pharmacy Scholarship by Sobeys National Pharmacy Group
2024-25 Pharmacy Technician Scholarship Recipient
Jennifer Aylward
Canadian Career College
Originally from Stephenville, NL, Jennifer Aylward moved to Labrador City in 2022 and is the mother of a 4-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter. She is currently enrolled in the Registered Pharmacy Technician program at Canadian Career College, while also working as a pharmacy assistant at the local hospital.
Working full time and going to school at the same time isn’t easy, but Jennifer is determined to succeed. “I am passionate about furthering my education, which will provide me with greater job opportunities and more stability for my family,” she explains. Jennifer recently completed the first semester of the program and, although it was challenging and sometimes overwhelming, she finished her last course with an over 90% average. Jennifer is incredibly proud of this achievement and hopes to continue to excel in this program through her graduation in 2025.
Jennifer is a compassionate and caring individual, always available to help a friend or a neighbour in need. She is grateful that her current workplace recognizes the rich history, heritage, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples across Canada. As she completes her education, Jennifer hopes to become more involved in the promotion of Indigenous culture among her colleagues, encouraging them to learn about the Indigenous methods of health care and supporting the care of Indigenous patients.
Jennifer is deeply honoured to have been selected for the IPPC Indigenous Pharmacy Scholarship by Sobeys National Pharmacy Group, which will both alleviate the financial burden associated with her education and allow her to better focus on achieving her goal of completing the program with honours. “Being selected for this award validates my hard work and determination so far and I’m very excited for the opportunity to contribute positively to the health and lives of Labrador’s vast Indigenous population.”
