Jennifer Ross-Ruszkowski is a Métis student from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, entering her final year of the Pharmacy Technician program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Saskatoon. Her journey in pharmacy began in 2020 when she started working as a pharmacy assistant in community pharmacy. Through that experience, she has gained valuable hands-on knowledge and developed a deeper understanding of the pharmacy profession.
A longstanding interest in health care has driven Jennifer’s career choices, and she has developed a true passion for pharmacy and the many opportunities it offers for continued learning and growth. “I aspire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives, and to be a role model and inspire other Métis students to pursue careers in health care,” she says. Providing patients with the medications they need and ensuring they receive high-quality service are at the core of her professional values. Her goal is to become a licensed pharmacy technician and provide patients with the best possible care, and she is excited about the opportunities ahead to continue learning and gaining experience.
Jennifer has continued to work throughout her studies to help meet her financial needs, balancing her education, career and personal responsibilities. While working while attending school can be challenging, Jennifer recognizes it as a reality many students face. Receiving the IPPC Indigenous Pharmacy Scholarship will help alleviate some of that financial pressure, allowing her to devote more time and energy to her studies and professional development.
“Being selected as a recipient of the IPPC Indigenous Pharmacy Scholarship is a tremendous honour that means so much to me,” Jennifer says. “I am especially grateful for the recognition and encouragement as I strive towards my goals.”
Jennifer is grateful to Sobeys National Pharmacy and IPPC for offering the scholarship and supporting Indigenous students pursuing careers in pharmacy. She will carry that encouragement with her throughout her education and future career and looks forward to making the most of the opportunities ahead and giving back to her community through her work.
