IPPC Indigenous Pharmacy Scholarship by Sobeys National Pharmacy Group
2025-2026 Pharmacy Technician Scholarship Recipient
Adam Lechkobit
Stenberg College
Adam Lechkobit is a 35-year-old member of Squamish Nation and a proud trans man who has overcome many obstacles and barriers to get to where he is today. Adam grew up in the Lower Mainland of BC, but currently resides in a small town in the Interior with his partner and two stepchildren, taking time away from the big city to focus on what is important.
In grade 8, Adam became acquainted with Antoine de Saint-Exupery's beloved character, "The Little Prince," whose story forever changed Adam's life. He has collected over 90 different copies of the book and counting, but his most treasured copy is written in the Ojibwe language. “The book is full of symbolism and metaphors that helped open my mind. I’ve read it dozens of times and can still take away a new lesson from the book when I read it,” he says. Adam tries to remember the little prince’s teachings to stay youthful, remember what truly matters and help guide him through tough situations.
Being outside and among nature has always made Adam happy. It is also important to him to “have a job that doesn’t feel like work.” It’s fitting that for the last decade he has been supervising and teaching others landscape maintenance and supervisory skills.
Recently Adam felt the urge to do something more impactful with his life while still having a career he would enjoy, which led him to the pharmacy technician program at Stenberg College.
Adam is looking forward to finishing his program for many reasons, the main one being that he wants to make sure the pharmacy is a judgement free space, and that all feel safe and welcome. He wants to continue to grow and learn (including his Squamish roots) and eventually pass this knowledge to others as teaching remains a deeply rooted passion.
“Being chosen to receive the 2025-26 IPPC Indigenous Scholarship by Sobeys National Pharmacy Group is extremely validating and acknowledges all of the hard work I’ve done not just in my program, but throughout my life, and I am beyond grateful,” Adam says. He is excited to start this next chapter of his life.
