The Canadian Pharmacist of the Year is you

For the first time ever, the Canadian Pharmacist of the Year is awarded to ALL pharmacists across the country in recognition of their monumental efforts to keep Canadians safe and healthy during the pandemic

March 31, 2022: After a year that saw pharmacists solidify their invaluable role in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic through tremendous efforts and great personal sacrifice on behalf of their communities, the Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA) has awarded the 2022 Canadian Pharmacist of the Year award to all pharmacists across the country

“I cannot overstate just how extremely proud I am of each and every pharmacist across Canada,” says Christina Tulk, Chair, CPhA. “When we consider everything pharmacists have been able to accomplish, from the critical role in our fight against COVID-19, to the expansion of pharmacist care to improve access and help our strained health system, to the newfound awareness of the profession in the hearts and minds of Canadians—this really was a collective effort by all pharmacists and recognizing that is the right thing to do.”

Canada’s pharmacists have taken on a lot to help the country through the pandemic. On top of their regular duties, they played a central part in our nationwide public health efforts against COVID-19. They’ve been beacons in our communities, showing up each day to help, educate and guide patients through the many challenges faced over the last 2 difficult years.

Pharmacists have truly embraced and grown their role in public health, expanding their practices to fill critical gaps in care exposed by the pandemic. In addition to screening, testing and vaccinating patients, they’ve played an important role in educating their communities on evolving medical evidence and guidelines and helped to fight the spread of misinformation. They have also expanded their role and utilized new authorities in areas like point-of-care testing and managing opioid-related care.

“With this award, we celebrate the amazing work of pharmacists, and we know that our patients and governments appreciate that the entire profession has been exemplary in its contributions to the fight against COVID-19,” added Tulk. “But we also know that a significant price has been paid in terms of workplace wellness, stress and burnout.”

Throughout this year CPhA will profile and highlight many of the pharmacists who are sharing in this award and recognize their unwavering dedication to their patients, communities and profession.

The Canadian Pharmacist of the Year Award is given annually by CPhA to recognize a pharmacist who demonstrates leadership and exemplifies the evolution of the pharmacy profession toward an expanded role in health care.
