New preconception health resources highlight pharmacists' role in care before and during pregnancy
CPhA has contributed resources to a new preconception health toolkit launched by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC), now available on PregnancyInfo.ca. The comprehensive resource is designed to support women and gender-diverse individuals in planning for a healthy pregnancy or a healthier life at any stage.
The new Preconception Health page brings together expert-informed guidance from organizations across Canada, highlighting the importance of health before pregnancy in shaping fertility, early pregnancy, and long-term outcomes.
Given the important role pharmacists play in providing accessible, front-line support, CPhA contributed three key resources:
- Medication Safety Before and During Pregnancy
- Vaccinations Before and During Pregnancy
- Vitamin and Mineral Supplementation Before and During Pregnancy
These tools are designed to support pharmacists in counselling patients on medication use, preventive care, and nutritional needs before and during pregnancy, helping to inform decision-making and improve health outcomes.
Pharmacists are encouraged to explore and use these resources to support patient conversations and advance proactive, patient-centred care. For more on supporting women’s and gender-diverse health, explore CPhA’s Resource Round-up: Women’s Health.
