Help your patients quit smoking this fall: Updated toolkit and new learning module

A fresh start doesn’t have to wait until the New Year. As routines reset this fall, it’s a natural time for patients to revisit their health goals, including quitting smoking. Pharmacists can help patients take the next step by starting conversations about their readiness to quit and the support available through their pharmacy.

To help pharmacists support patients in their quit attempts, CPhA’s Break the Habit: A Pharmacist’s Toolkit for Smoking Cessation Counselling has been fully reviewed and updated. The toolkit also features a new CPhA Learning module to support pharmacists in providing culturally responsive smoking cessation care.

New learning module: Delivering Culturally Sensitive Smoking Cessation Support

Patients bring different experiences, perspectives and needs to smoking cessation care. The toolkit’s new CPhA Learning module explores how cultural diversity influences this care, including barriers faced by racialized groups and how these may affect access to and experiences with smoking cessation services.

Through the module, pharmacists will consider approaches to culturally responsive communication and the use of appropriate educational resources to support patients in their quit attempts. The module is coming soon in French.
