Canadian Pharmacists Association Welcomes New Chair
June 18, 2018 (Ottawa): Saskatoon pharmacist Christine Hrudka has been named the new Chair of the Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA) for 2018-2019.
Christine was appointed at the Canadian Pharmacists Conference 2018 held June 2-5 in Fredericton, NB. First elected to the CPhA Board of Directors in 2016 she has served as Vice-Chair for the last two years, championing patient-centred care, improved access to much needed community health services and comprehensive solutions to address Canada’s opioid crisis.
“I am excited to lead CPhA as our profession continues to strengthen primary healthcare in every community in Canada. Pharmacists are playing an increasingly key role as health care providers in areas such as medication management, vaccinations, addictions, prescribing for minor ailments and chronic disease management for conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes,” says Christine. “More and more Canadians recognize the value of the services that pharmacists provide in managing their health and pharmacists are ready and willing to step up for their patients.”
As a pharmacy owner/pharmacist, in a profession in which women make up the majority, one of Christine’s priorities will be to foster more women in leadership positions. “We need women as the next CEOs, entrepreneurs, and board members.”
Christine has served the profession in many capacities over the last 10 years, including board member and president of the Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals. She is also the representative of the Pharmacy Association of Saskatchewan (PAS) on the CPhA Board. A past chair of PAS, she currently sits on its board and is a board member for a variety of other pharmacy and community organizations, including the Senate at her alma mater, the University of Saskatchewan. She was a pharmacist/owner for 18 years with Shoppers Drug Mart and currently owns the Pharmacy First pharmacy in Saskatoon.
