Canadian pharmacy had a strong presence at FIP World Congress 2026, which brought a record 3455 delegates from 116 countries to Montréal. From primary care and expanded scope to workforce and education, Canadian experiences helped inform global conversations, while creating new opportunities to learn from pharmacy leaders around the world.

Health Canada information sessions: Controlled Substances Regulations
Health Canada is hosting information sessions for community pharmacy professionals ahead of the new Controlled Substances Regulations coming into force on October 1, 2026. The sessions will highlight key changes affecting pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy managers as the new regulations replace the Narcotic Control Regulations, Parts G and J of the Food and Drug Regulations, and the Benzodiazepine and Other Targeted Substances Regulations.

CPhA outlines priorities for Budget 2026
CPhA released its 2026 federal pre-budget submission, outlining targeted actions to improve access to primary care and medications by making better use of Canada’s existing health workforce. Recommendations include enabling health professionals, including pharmacists, to practise to their full scope; investing in the expansion of CPhA’s IPG Mentorship and Integration Project; and strengthening Canada’s medication system through investments in e-prescribing, drug shortage data and supply resilience.
CPhA and APhA warn that recent drug importation policies could put patients at risk
CPhA and the American Pharmacists Association have issued a joint statement opposing US policies that would facilitate large-scale prescription drug imports from Canada. The associations warn that importation is not a sustainable solution to medication affordability and could put patient safety, continuity of care and Canada’s drug supply at risk.
New CPhA toolkit supports inclusive sexual and reproductive health care for transgender and gender-diverse communities
CPhA has launched a new toolkit to help pharmacists provide inclusive, evidence-informed sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care for transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) individuals. The collection provides practical guidance and resources to help pharmacists confidently deliver respectful, affirming and patient-centred sexual and reproductive health care to transgender and gender-diverse individuals.
