New CPS chapter on gender-affirming care Banner

The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) recommends that health-care providers understand the impact of social attitudes, laws, economic circumstances, and health systems on the lived experiences of transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) individuals and encourages health-care providers to seek training on the provision of gender-affirming care.

To that effect, the Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA) is pleased to announce that our newest CPS chapter, Gender-Affirming Care for Transgender and Gender-Diverse Individuals, is now available on CPS Full Access (French coming soon).

The new chapter covers a wealth of information to help you provide optimal care to your TGD patients, including:

  • Language and terminology to foster inclusive care
  • A description of the 4 key gender-affirmation domains: social, psychological, legal and medical (includes surgical and hormonal gender-affirming therapy)
  • A detailed review of the hormonal therapy options available in Canada, including potential adverse effects and timelines of changes that TGD patients may expect with therapy
Greg Richard

"Fostering inclusive health-care spaces and providing gender-affirming care are essential to ensuring every patient feels seen, respected and supported. I hope this new chapter empowers providers with the tools and knowledge to better serve their transgender and gender-diverse patients."

— Greg Richard, RPh, BSc(Pharm) Author of the Gender-Affirming Care for Transgender and Gender-Diverse Individuals chapter
