Content updates

Major updates

The following content has been extensively updated and reviewed by 2 external peer reviewers:

  • Asthma in Infants and Children: Clarified and emphasized appropriate use of short-acting beta-agonists (>2 times per week is a sign of suboptimal control); added information and reference to Canadian scoring system for exacerbation management, the Pediatric Respiratory Assessment Measure (PRAM); added information and reference to Canadian Pediatric Society guidelines on exacerbation management.
  • Edema: New table: Examples of Drugs that Can Cause Edema.
  • Excessive Perspiration and Body Odour: New patient infographic available in English and French; added information and reference to Canadian rating system, the Hyperhidrosis Disease Severity Scale (HDSS).
  • Gout and Hyperuricemia: New patient infographic available in English.
 

Minor updates

The following content has been reviewed to ensure that it is current:

  • COVID-19: Updated the chapter to reflect current understanding and to make it more streamlined, guideline-driven and user-friendly.
  • Dermatological Considerations in Skin of Colour: Routine review.
  • Bacterial meningitis: Updated information on use of adjunctive corticosteroids; updated drug table entry for meningococcal vaccines.
  • Serum Drug Concentration Monitoring: Added Hartford nomogram for once-daily aminoglycoside dosing; added information on AUC-based dosing for vancomycin.
  • Pruritis: Routine review.
  • Rosacea: Routine review.
