IPPC Indigenous Pharmacy Scholarship

Faith Hines
University of Waterloo

Faith Hines (she/they) is Lenape from Six Nations of the Grand River and an incoming first-year PharmD student at the University of Waterloo. She recently completed both a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and Bachelor of Education at Queen’s University and is interested in bringing her background in education into her approach to pharmacy practice.

As an Indigenous pharmacy professional, Faith hopes to draw on her teaching experience to foster respectful and reciprocal relationships within her community and advocate for anti-racist and inclusive health care in her future practice. She is also interested in promoting holistic wellness for her future patients, colleagues and herself.

Outside of her studies, Faith enjoys beading, cross-stitch and puzzle games, including escape rooms. She is also passionate about STEM outreach and has volunteered to educate and engage youth and the public through biology outreach initiatives. As an Indigenous Rocket Team Outreach Lead at Queen’s University, she worked to inspire Indigenous youth to pursue opportunities in STEM.

“Receiving this scholarship gives me the opportunity to continue pursuing my passion for giving back to community by bringing together traditional knowledge, pharmacy and education,” Faith says. “I am grateful for the support as I continue to learn and reflect on how I can become an effective, caring pharmacist for future patients in a changing world.”

Faith looks forward to beginning her studies at the University of Waterloo and continuing to learn from pharmacy professionals, community members and the land.
