New CPS chapter on Routine Childhood Vaccinations Released
The Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA) is delighted to announce that our newest CPS chapter — Routine Childhood Vaccinations — is now available on CPS.
This chapter addresses several critical aspects of vaccination, including:
- Vaccine hesitancy
- Interruptions to vaccination schedules
- Product interchangeability
- Administration of multiple injections
The new content provides information on essential vaccines like tetanus, diphtheria pertussis, pneumococcal disease, poliomyelitis, Haemophilus influenzae type b, hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella and varicella.
It also offers strategies for reducing pain during vaccinations and emphasizes the importance of reporting adverse events.
The authors have included a valuable section specifically crafted to help address vaccine hesitancy among parents and caregivers. Named “Childhood Vaccinations – Frequently Asked Questions by Canadian Parents and Caregivers,” this section answers common concerns about vaccine safety and effectiveness. The FAQs can be found both as plain text within the chapter and in an infographic format, making it easy to share.
“Routine vaccinations in childhood benefit children and society overall, but complex schedules and multiple vaccine products for a given disease can be challenging to navigate. Caregivers may also have questions about the diseases being prevented and the safety and effectiveness of these vaccines. This chapter on Routine Childhood Vaccinations aims to provide a practical summary of what health professionals need to know when providing routine vaccination care to children.”
