CPhA welcomes new Chair and Board members

The Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA) is pleased to announce the election of Deb Saltmarche as Chair of the Board of Directors, alongside the appointment of six new Board members representing pharmacy organizations from across Canada.

Saltmarche is Senior Director, Professional Affairs, Ontario and National at Shoppers Drug Mart. A past Chair of both the Ontario Pharmacists Association (OPA) and the Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy (CFP), she currently serves on CFP's Board of Directors and holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

"I am honoured to serve as Chair of the CPhA Board of Directors at such an important time for the profession," said Saltmarche. "Pharmacists continue to play an increasingly vital role in Canada's health-care system, and I look forward to working with my fellow Board members, our provincial partners and the CPhA team as we build on the progress of recent years and help shape the next chapter of pharmacy in Canada."

Joining the Board are:

  • Mark Kunzli (British Columbia Pharmacy Association)
  • Brittany Zelmer (Alberta Pharmacists' Association)
  • Paul Bowman (New Brunswick Pharmacists' Association)
  • Christina Vaccaro (Pharmacists Manitoba)
  • Benoit Morin (Association québécoise des pharmaciens propriétaires)
  • Hitesh Panday (Ontario Pharmacists Association)

Laurie Deal, representing the Pharmacy Association of Nova Scotia (PANS), has been appointed Vice Chair.

The new Board assumes leadership at a pivotal time for CPhA. As the organization enters the final year of its current strategic plan, work is underway to develop the next plan that will guide CPhA's efforts to support pharmacists, strengthen patient care and advance the profession in the years ahead.

Over the past several years, CPhA has made significant progress in advancing the priorities outlined in its current strategic plan, strengthening national advocacy efforts, elevating pharmacy's role in primary care, supporting pharmacists in practising to their full education and training and expanding the resources and tools available to pharmacy professionals across Canada.

CPhA also extends its sincere thanks to outgoing Chair Annette Robinson and Board members Bruce Winston, Dennis Abud and Jennifer Butler for their dedicated service and leadership.

"On behalf of CPhA, I would like to thank Annette and our outgoing Board members for their commitment, leadership and service to the profession," said Glen Doucet, Chief Executive Officer. "Their leadership helped guide CPhA through a period of significant change for pharmacy and laid a strong foundation for the future. We look forward to working with Deb, Laurie and our new Board members as we build on that momentum and develop the next strategic plan that will help guide CPhA and Canadian pharmacy into the future."

The Board of Directors plays a critical role in guiding CPhA's strategic direction and advancing its mission as the national voice for every pharmacist, for all of pharmacy.
