CPhA encouraged by federal health minister's statement on equity in primary care

January 10, 2025 (Ottawa): The Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA) is encouraged by federal health minister Mark Holland’s recent statement clarifying Canada Health Act rules around access to medically necessary services.

We believe this announcement is a positive step toward ensuring equity among health-care providers. It establishes an important principle: if a health-care provider has the education to deliver a medically necessary service, that service should be covered, regardless of the provider or the setting in which it is delivered.

“This commitment reinforces the critical role of all health-care providers, including pharmacists, in meeting the needs of patients and reducing barriers to care,” said Glen Doucet, CEO, CPhA.

CPhA looks forward to continuing to work with federal and provincial leaders to advance equitable, patient-centered primary care across Canada.
