Internal Activities and Board/Staff Development

Ensuring that board and members have access to education, tools and resources to support their professional and personal commitments to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility is critical to fostering a culture of inclusivity and belonging.
Some of the internal activities we’re currently undertaking include:
Cultural understanding and educational opportunities:
CPhA believes in broad and ongoing cultural understanding training for our board and staff. Some of our most educational sessions have included:
- KAIROS Blanket Exercise
- Intergenerational Trauma and the Protective Effects of Culture in Relation to Well-being Among First Nations Peoples in Canada webinar
- Fostering a Workplace Culture of Inclusion and Belonging
- Creating an Inclusive Workplace
- Exploring Bias (Fact Checking Our Brain)
- Unconscious Bias Training: When to (and when not to) Trust Your Gut
- Black History Month Presentation
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Working Group:
An internal, staff-led committee made up of a diverse group of staff members who are committed to continually reviewing and updating our practices and procedures to help ensure CPhA is a culturally safe, inclusive workplace.
Language requirements:
We are also examining and updating our language requirements, formalizing requirements for bilingualism and offering support and training for existing staff where necessary.
Policies and procedures:
CPhA’s DEI Committee and HR department is undertaking a thorough review of the language in all of our policies and procedures to ensure inclusive language and practices.
Recruitment:
In an effort to broaden the reach of our job postings for available positions, CPhA’s HR team is actively seeking new and innovative ways to ensure employment opportunities at CPhA are visible to underrepresented groups, including veterans, people with disabilities and other equity-seeking populations.
Strategic planning:
IDEA-informed focus areas, language and engagement are embedded in our strategic and operational planning and processes. Building on the current Strategic Plan (2021-2023), our updated strategic plan is being developed in consultation with a diverse range of stakeholders and will be unveiled in the coming months.
CPhA will continue to evaluate and evolve our efforts to ensure inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility are at the forefront of our internal and external activities across the association, and to share them with you.
