Updated CPS chapter on Acne

Acne is one of the most common dermatologic conditions encountered in pharmacy practice, affecting patients across all ages and skin types. To support your practice, the Acne chapter in CPS Full Access has been updated with evidence-based, practical guidance. The revised content includes enhanced information on patient assessment, differential diagnosis, monitoring and treatment options, along with new considerations for diverse skin types and individuals undergoing gender-affirming therapy—making it easier to provide informed, inclusive care.

Sarah Larose

“Acne is a common dermatologic condition managed by pharmacy professionals with profound physical and psychosocial consequences across the lifespan. The updated chapter returns to emphasizing disease pathophysiology which is key for pharmacy student learners to better understand the “why” behind the disease mechanisms. This supports a better approach to dermatologic assessment for both diagnosis and monitoring, as well as clinical decision-making. By integrating a broader discussion of special populations, including skin of color and gender diverse patients (both areas historically underrepresented in the medical literature), the chapter supports more informed, equitable care. This updated chapter will serve as a valuable resource for learning and meaningful patient care.”

— Sarah Larose, Clinical Pharmacist and Senior Instructor, College of Pharmacy, Dalhousie University
