Content updates
Major updates
The following content has been extensively updated and reviewed by 2 external peer reviewers:
- Hair Care, Hair Loss and Excessive Hair Growth: Added new patient infographic; additional information to help care for diverse hair types, including a new section on prevention of traction alopecia; added several new photos; added new tables on causes of hair loss and causes of excessive hair growth; added a new section on alopecia areata. Check out our webpage to learn more on this updated chapter.
- Atopic Dermatitis: Reorganized to include all atopic dermatitis information in one place, including pathophysiology and patient monitoring; updated the algorithm; added new drugs to the new drug table for the many systemic therapies now available.
- Alcohol-Related Disorders: Expanded the Pharmacologic Choices section; added new and expanded information in drug tables, including separate drug tables for treatment of chronic alcohol use disorder and treatment of acute alcohol withdrawal.
- Dandruff and Seborrheic Dermatitis: Added new patient infographic; expanded information on differential diagnosis and when to refer patients; new descriptions and photos in skin of colour; added roflumilast to text, algorithm and drug table; reorganized Pharmacologic Choices section into first-line therapy, add-on therapy and other.
- Bacterial skin infection: Added information and diagram explaining healthy skin structure; added new table comparing clinical presentation and risk factors for different types of bacterial skin infection; new and reorganized antibiotic information.
Minor updates
The following content has been reviewed to ensure that it is current:
- COPD: Added new drugs; more information on importance of vaccines; updated links to Canadian and international (GOLD) guidelines.
- Insomnia: Routine review; added new drug daridorexant.
- Hypertension: Updated to include new Canadian guidelines and blood pressure targets.
