CPhA Statement on CBC Marketplace
Jan. 19, 2015 (Ottawa): As the national voice of pharmacists in Canada, the Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA) today issued the following statement regarding the upcoming January 23rd episode of CBC Marketplace:
The more than 37,000 pharmacists who fill 600 million prescriptions for Canadians every year do so with the highest degree of integrity and commitment to patient care. Canadians know that the service provided by pharmacists is both reliable and safe, which is why year over year for the past decade Canadians have identified pharmacists as having the most integrity and operating with the highest ethical standard amongst all professions in Canada.
Pharmacists adhere to stringent regulatory requirements and standards of practice in order to deliver quality patient care. Furthermore, pharmacists are leading the development of quality assurance programs across Canada and these innovative programs are further advancing patient care. In addition, CPhA, provincial pharmacists associations and the faculties of pharmacy across Canada are committed to providing the tools, education and support to ensure the profession is equipped to meet the expanding expectations of patients.
If a patient has an unfortunate service experience, there are many options for recourse available ranging from talking with their pharmacist through to filing a formal complaint with the provincial pharmacy licensing authority. The goal of the pharmacist professional involved in such a case would be to rectify the issue and to prevent a recurrence.
Without reservation, we can say that pharmacists have earned the trust and respect of Canadians through the delivery of professional care that helps them lead better and longer lives. Canadian pharmacists remain committed to meeting the needs of patients and enhancing care in the thousands of communities in which they serve.
