Canada–U.S. Forum brings pharmacy leaders together in Toronto to exchange ideas and lessons on pharmacy practice and PBM reform

On March 25-26, the Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA) co-hosted the Canada–U.S. Pharmacy Forum in Toronto in partnership with Drug Store News, a leading U.S. pharmacy publication. The event brought together senior pharmacy leaders, regulators, and advocates from both countries to exchange insights and strategies on some of the most pressing issues facing the profession today.

As both Canada and the U.S. work to expand the role of pharmacists in primary care, the forum offered a timely opportunity to share solutions to shared challenges—from workforce pressures and regulatory barriers to evolving patient expectations.

The forum centered on two key themes: the urgent need for pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) reform and Canada’s global leadership in advancing pharmacy scope of practice. Attendees explored innovative models emerging across Canada and discussed how these approaches could inform and inspire the evolution of pharmacy practice in the U.S. Canadian participants also gained valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities for PBM reform, drawing lessons that could help shape similar efforts at home.

With engaging discussions on collaborative approaches, policy advancement, and system transformation, the forum underscored the importance of uniting across borders to support and advance the pharmacy profession.
