Diabetes Guidelines Highlights

The Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) recently released the 2013 Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Prevention and Management of Diabetes in Canada. As part of the DSP, we are pleased to help promote these clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) and educate pharmacists about their practical use in community pharmacy.

This September we are releasing a Diabetes Guidelines Highlights series that features essential information for community pharmacists from each chapter of the CPGs. We will also be hosting a webinar that will take a broader look at how to incorporate the CPGs into everyday practice.

When CDA released the 2008 Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Diabetes in Canada, the Canadian Pharmacists Journal (CPJ) developed the first set of CPGs on diabetes specifically for pharmacists. This CPJ supplement, titled Diabetes, was distributed with the March/April 2009 issue of the journal and contains a summary of recommendations geared to pharmacists in the management and monitoring of patients with diabetes.
