CPhA Takes Action: Blueprint for Pharmacy—Blueprint Working Groups

The Task Force on a Blueprint for Pharmacy has established five Blueprint Working Groups consisting of industry experts and people committed to improving the pharmacy profession. The Working Groups role is to develop the detailed implementation plans (actions, deliverables, timeframes, stakeholders) required to achieve the Vision for Pharmacy.

The five Working Groups are:

• Pharmacy human resources
  Guide pharmacy human resource initiatives to ensure that Canadians have access to high quality, professional pharmacy services
• Education and continuing professional development
  Foster education and continuing professional development activities to ensure that Canadians receive patient-centred, outcome-focused care
• Information and communication technology
  Advance the development and implementation of information and communication technology to ensure the safe and effective use of medication
• Financial viability and sustainability
  Provide pharmacy services that are financially viable and sustainable to optimize medication use, promote wellness and disease prevention
• Legislation, regulation and liability
  Address the legislation, regulation and liability issues to enable pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to practice to the full extent of their knowledge and skills to provide quality care

The Task Force on a Blueprint for Pharmacy will be responsible for bringing all five sections together into a national implementation plan, anticipated in Summer 2009.
