The Blueprint for Pharmacy: The Vision for Pharmacy is an historic document that describes a landscape where pharmacists practice to the full extent of their skills and knowledge to achieve optimal drug therapy outcomes for Canadians through patient-centred care. The Blueprint for Pharmacy: The Vision for Pharmacy reviews medication use challenges and the current and future role of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in the health care system. It also outlines the key elements and proposed strategic actions in five key areas required to achieve the Vision and meet the future health care needs of Canadians:
- pharmacy human resources
- education and continuing professional development
- information and communication technology
- financial viability and sustainability
- legislation, regulation and liability

Implementation Plan (NEW!)
The Blueprint for Pharmacy Working Groups and Task Force have released the Blueprint for Pharmacy Implementation Plan for consultation. Discussions are now underway with potential leading and partnering organizations to carry out the activities in this plan necessary to achieve the Vision for Pharmacy. We invite pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other interested stakeholders to submit their comments on this Implementation Plan at blueprint@pharmacists.ca.
Task Force and Working Groups The Task Force on a Blueprint for Pharmacy was established in December 2006 to define a clear action plan for the future of pharmacy. Chaired by Dr. David Hill, the 19-member The Task Force includes broad representation from pharmacy stakeholders across Canada.
The Task Force is assisted by five expert Blueprint Working Groups aligned with the five strategic areas identified in the Blueprint for Pharmacy: the Vision for Pharmacy. The Working Groups are responsible for developing the detailed implementation plan which will outline the steps necessary to achieving the Vision for Pharmacy.
